Gift Exchange

So last night was my neighborhood's annual "Ladies Gift Exchange" party....what a great time! Every year about 25-35 women show up with a gift ranging from $25-$30 wrapped beautifully to put under the "host's tree".   There are always tons of great food and wine flowing freely.  This year it was held at my girlfriend's house just 2 doors down and with the weather being as beautiful as it has been here (50+ degrees!) I just walked.
To start the gift exchange each women then gets a number and we pick our gifts in that order. Everyone watches in anticipation of what each unwrapped gift will be. They always range, but you can be certain that there will always be so great jewelry and usually a few fun beauty items (there are LOTS of stylish ladies in this group!). Of course, to spice it up we play were you can "steal" a gift that has already been opened once it is your turn. The catch is that a gift can only be stolen 2x so if you get a great gift and you happen to be the second one "stealing" it then you can rest assured it will be going home with you! ;)

That is exactly what happened for me last night!  I had my eye on this great pair of Pave Loft earrings that were stolen 1x before it was my turn. As soon as my number was called I grabbed those babies and took them home with me last night.  Woohoo!

So here is what I wore - festive, relaxed and definitely "girl party" :)

Christmas Party

Well, tonight was the night.....the first Holiday gathering of the year. Aahhhh - it was so nice :)  Small intimate gathering of just a few couples at a private home. Some great laughs, great drinks and great food was enjoyed.  I was so comfy in my Diane von Furstenburg red wool shift and stylish for the party :)

Have you had any holiday parties yet?  If so, what have you worn?  I would love some ideas for the upcoming ones! Let me know :)

ULTA haul!

Hello!  Well, I have a few minutes this morning before the "craziness" of the day starts and I have really been wanting to share my ULTA shopping trip from a few days ago with you.

I had my ad in hand and knew everything I wanted. Here is what I came out with and my opinions after use:

Benefit's Sexy Little stowaways - these miniature sized bottles of some of my favs will be perfect for my trip to NYC with the hubs next weekend! Frederic Fekkai Advanced Ironless shampoo and conditioner, Lorac POREfection pressed powder and Lorac performance foundation, ULTA Ionic wide tooth comb (they really do eliminate static in your hair and help prevent damage and breakage especially if you use when your hair is wet)$1.79, Smashbox Photo Finish primer (in a travel size - $17), ULTA pro-brush set with clutch, Essie polish in "Over the Top" (I put this on almost immediately after arriving home and I LOVE it! It is a gunmetal sparkly color - what is not to love?)- $8 and OPI polish in "Lincoln Park After Dark"- $8.50
~ More Details about products below ~

Okay, so one of the things I was on the hunt for was a new foundation. I am one of those girls that HAS the wear foundation. The years have not been very kind to my face and what started off as "okay" skin has become pretty problematic to say the least.
My skin hyper-pigments so I have to protect my face from the sun at all times. That means sunscreen year round or I have dark spots that begin to really show up. I also have very visible pores and the smallest imperfection can morph into a new dark or red spot even without provoking.
The results are that I need a primer and a pretty solid coverage skin correcting foundation (at least that is what makes me feel better about my skin!). Enter the ULTA beauty expert that recommended LORAC Natural Performance Foundation and LORAC POREfection pressed powder. Oil free, Paraben free and fragrance free foundation was a great plus and the coverage was great!  I have been wearing it for 3 days and I can report that it has lasting power, great coverage and has not caused any breakouts.... This one is a winner!
The POREfection pressed powder is really amazing!  It has a light silky finish and seriously does reduce the look and size of your pores!   I am a believer after 3 days and I am so excited that they showed me Lorac :)
Lorac Natural Performance Foundation $36
Lorac POREfection powder $32

ULTA 6pc pro-brush set - great set of brushes offered through ULTA and they come in this super cute sparkly clutch that would be great for holiday parties! only $25 it was a steal!

So I pretty much love alot of the Benefit products (thanks to my make-up artist girlfriend who introduced me a few years ago! :).  This great little set not only had a few of my favs that I can through in my bag for my NYC trip, but also had a couple of new ones (to me) that I have wanted to try out. My favs; Stay dont' Stray - incredible lid primer for eye shadows. I really like Urban Decay's lid primer, but this is still my favorite. That Gal - I know I have mentioned it before on my blog, facebook, pinterest, etc. so it is probably not a surprise if you have been following, but here it is again! I LOVE this stuff. I actually apply it after I have finished my make-up as a kind of "final set" to my face. It brightens and holds everything nicely in place for a longer lasting "face" :) Ohh la Lift - this under eye brightener is the best!  I dot it all around my eye and lightly smudge it in. Instant eye brightening :)
I am looking forward to trying Badgal Lash and have been using Bella Bamba out as my blush the last few days and I think I really like! Great value at only $34.

Fekkai Advanced Silky Straight Ironless shampoo and conditioner:
I really don't wear my hair straight nearly as much as I used to, but I still have heard such wonderful things about this set that I had to try it for myself.  I figured that since my hair is naturally wavy (something I try to avoid it doing on it's own) that it might help me straighten some of that wave naturally.  Well, that is exactly what it did. I have only used it once (I only wash my hair every 2-3 days) but I plan to use it again tonight and see if I am still feeling good about it (without build up!).  I do have to say that my hair air dried much faster than normal and with alot less wave. It was also much silkier than normal. It really did seem to tame the ends a bit which was nice, too.
I would say it is worth a try!
$25.00 per 8oz bottle

Well, I am off to my son's basketball game! Glad to be enjoying some indoor family time on this gloomy, rainy Saturday :)

Pop of Red

We have had the most incredibly warm weather here in Cincinnati. Hard to believe that it is already a week into December and we have been in the mid to high 50's every day! Typically we are in the 30's (at best )with snow this time of year.

Well, with that has been the chance to wear some lighter fabrics and I have been taking advantage, saving my heavier sweaters, coats and such for the cold that I know is coming!

This past week I pulled a new flowy red tunic blouse from Mod Cloth (you have got to check out there website if you haven't already - the cutest clothes and the new dresses are perfect!) out of my closet. It was seriously so comfortable and I really loved the way it looked. I hate that you can't really see the real color (at least it doesn't show up realistic on my pc screen). It looks orangy in the pics to me, but it is actually a tomato red and is so pretty!  Let me know what you think :)

6. I am totally addicted to Dunkin Donuts coffee - seriously addicted!
7. I would have a zoo in my backyard if it was legal (and possible;)

Questions From Gina w/ Classy Ever After

1. If you could describe your personal style using only 3 words, what would they be?
Classic, polished, fun
2. If you could purchase the designer handbag of your dreams (money is no object in this scenario), which one would you buy and what color?
Fendi 2jours structured leather bag - in a neutral because I would want to be sure I could wear it with everything!
3. What inspired you to start your very own fashion/lifestyle blog?
The "who" was my husband and even though that wasn't a question I have to let that be known - he is my biggest fan - always!  The "what" was me wanting to stop rambling on for hours about fashion and beauty tips and finds to that same husband (who lets face it - doesn't really care!). I figured this would be a much better forum to voice all of that and I knew it would be fun to share with this community.
4. Is there a cause that is near and dear to your heart, and, if so, what is it? For example, mine is animal / pet rescue.
Adoption - International & Domestic. I work with women in a pregnancy crisis center to help them determine how to handle pregnancy crisis situations. I love to see lives changed through an adoption decision. It is such a beautiful outcome for birth mothers, adoptive parents and the children! The most selfless act and a blessing to be a part of.

5. What is your dream vacation spot?
Paris, France
6. Is there a garment, or an accessory that you just can't stop buying even though you know you don't need any more of them? Feel free to list more than one!
Scarfs, boots, jackets - I seriously have so many of all of them :/
7. What are the most important qualities you look for in a close friend or significant other?
Honesty & good communication
8. Would you describe yourself as more trendy or primarily timeless while incorporating the trends you love most into your wardrobe?
Primarily timeless  - my fallback baseline is always blue jeans and a white shirt. When I am burned out, unsure or just want to feel like "me" that is what you will find me in. Those stand the test of time and you can always incorporate a new trend without losing those elements! :)
9. If you had one wish, anything at all, what would it be?
That my dad would still be here. I lost him tragically 3 months ago and I can't tell you how much I miss him.  I am so sad for my kids that they will not grow up having a relationship with him.
10. What is your favorite season for creating outfits? What season do you find to be most challenging?
My favorite season is definitely fall. Beautiful colors everywhere (clothing, nature, etc) and I can get to wearing ALL those scarfs, boots and jackets I have accumulated!! :)
The most challenging for me is probably summer because I really don't worry as much about "fashion" as I do about staying cool!
11. What honest advice would you give to someone who is thinking of starting a blog?
Don't let your fear of what others will think stop you - I did for a long time. Now that I have my blog up and running I can share and talk about all the things I find fun and great about fashion and beauty I am loving it! This community is so supportive :)
