Birds of a Feather.

I am really really in love with this top right now that I snagged at TJ Maxx a few weeks back. So versatile, comfortable and a little kick of color. I know the design is probably hard to make out, but it is actually an outline print of tiny birds in flight (hence the post title).
It worked wonderfully with a blazer and lightweight sweater this weekend and I know it will go equally well into spring this year.
Looking forward to many more combos in the future :)

Here is the "try-on" at the store :)

And how I am wearing it now (at least for the first time :)

And without the blazer.......

And with the coral sweater added.......

Oxblood goes to lunch.

Today I met my wonderful husband for an impromptu lunch at one of my favorites, Stone Creek Dining Company in downtown Montgomery. He was there performing his "Presidential duties" for the Chamber and I was out and about with little Gabrielle running errands and still trying to catch up after getting back in town from vacation this past Monday night. I welcomed the break and some great food!

Since I was already out running errands I was going for comfort, but I couldn't resist having him snap a few pics after lunch since I knew it would be a different background for a change on my blog and I would still get to talk about how much I love my oxblood jeans from Target! I know I have things in my closet that look better and are more flattering on me, but I was very comfortable and totally enjoying this 55 degrees on the last day of November in Cincinnati :)

Day at the office

Today was my normal Wednesday at the office so I went in a skirt, as I typically do.  I also need something comfortable. I am seeing clients off and on, but I also spend alot of time at the computer so I can't have anything binding or uncomfortable - really I NEVER want to wear anything like that, actually! ;)

I didn't have my incredible camera man today so you will have to look at the "self portraits" from the mirror - sorry!

Gray Cotton Maxi Skirt: from Target (see it worn in a previous blog)
Sweater: Old Navy (find here) - I bought mine in "Airwalker"
Infinity Scarf: Express (find it here) - I bought mine in "Gray Leopard"

Watch: Kenneth Cole (find similar here)
Bracelet: this is actually my dad's necklace wrapped around my wrist three times and fastened. He passed away almost 3 months ago and this was the necklace that he wore all the time.  I wanted to find a way to wear it or possibly have it melted down and turned into another piece of jewelry that I thought I would wear. I tried this yesterday and I LOVE it!  I like this above wearing it as a necklace so much more, as well,  because when it is on my wrist I can actually see it. It is a constant reminder of him for me - good memories because when I saw this necklace on his neck then I also saw his smile just above it :)

"You smell NICE........"

.....okay, yes, there is a story behind that quote - lol :)  Three or four years ago I went in to a new salon for a pedicure. When the girl came over to get me and take to me my pedi chair she was very touchy feely. To be honest it was a little uncomfortable.  On top of that I had a difficult time understanding what she was saying to me with her very strong Korean accent, but she was very sweet. As I started to roll up the hem of my jeans to put my feet in the basin she jumped to her knees in front of me and said, "I will get it!". While she was in the process of rolling up my jeans she looked up at me with a very seriously face and the most clear affirmative English she could muster and said, "Mmmmm, you smell niiiiicccceeee!"  At the time all I could do was smile and nod....it was beyond uncomfortable, I really dont' know how else to explain it.
Well, I told my best friend, Tina, and to this day, every time she sees me and we hug she says, "mmmm, you smell niiiiccceeee!". We, of course, crack up about it now.  It is made only more funny by the fact that I get stopped (by total strangers) several times a week and asked what scent I am wearing or told I smell good. Don't get me wrong, I think it is a great compliment and I think it is too sweet that someone would go out of their way to pay me a compliment, but after my nail salon experience it is kind of funny. I am telling you that this almost never happened before that incident and I have not changed my signature fragrances in years.....strange!!!

Anyway, enough story.....on to the meat of the blog!  Today's blog is, of course, all about my favorite scents.  I really do not wear anything that is expensive or hard to get. I don't generally like anything very heavy and although I have listed 3 perfumes below I typically stick to body sprays because perfumes tend to give me a headache too easily.  Since the body sprays are not typically as strong they are easier for me to enjoy. Ironically, it does seem to be when I wear my body sprays that I get the most reactions. Maybe you could try one or two out on your own and see if you get a similar reaction?

FLIRT! Flirtatious is a super yummy, sweet smelling perfume that is not too strong or overwhelming. It has notes of vanilla, honeysuckle and fruit. This is a very inexpensive perfume that I first discovered back around 2007 when it first appeared on the market. Find it here and here.

Lolita Lempicka is one I have been wearing off and on for about 15 years. It has a more floral scent than I typically go for (violet & iris in this one dominate), but it is balanced with vanilla, as well.  I also like this one for it's more sensual allure. It is a "grown ups" perfume that I started wearing long before I should have been. I appreciate it much more now than I did 15 years ago! Again, it is a lighter scent than many perfumes in general.  Find it here.

Ah, Coach Poppy. Yes, I know that it is EVERYWHERE and it's virtually impossible to "stand out in a crowd" in this one. But, I still like it. I admit that I do not really wear it very much, but on occasion it seems to be the right choice. Much more floral and not enough sweet for what I typically go for. Many many people have been raving about this one since it's release to the store shelved in 2010.
Find it here and nearly every department store you venture into!

Victoria's Secret "Tease" from their Sexy Little Things collection is one that has an entire line of lotions, perfume sprays, etc behind it, but I only wear it in the body spray version. The body spray, while still strong as this is a stronger scent in general, is certainly not as heavy as the perfume. This one is a mix of floral and fruits and finished off with a twist of vanilla. It is sweet, fun and a little bit seductive. Find it here.

Victoria's Secret "Candy Baby" from the Beauty Rush collection. I do not know if this is a fact or not, but I have caught wind that they are or will be discontinuing this line in the near future. That breaks my heart as this has been my favorite scent since it came out however many years ago. This is the scent that I wear nearly every day and almost never fail to get at least one compliment out of it. It is me to a "T". It smells like cotton candy! Such a yummy, yummy scent....really I can not say enough good things about this. If you don't like sweet candy then stay away from this one - wearing this you are likely to get some longing looks from those dreaming of some sweet treat!
BTW, this is THE scent I was wearing that fateful day in the salon. :)
Find it here.

You may have noticed a theme with my scents - vanilla and fruit. I like what I like, I guess!

Tip: When spraying a body spray like the two above, spray them on your body and then again on yourself once you are dressed and also spray them in your hair like a hairspray. The scent will last ALL DAY in your hair and everytime your hair moves it releases the scent!  ;)

One last thing....when I came into my office tonight to sit down and write today's blog there was  beautiful little envelope wrapped in a bow on my keyboard.

I opened it and inside this is what it said, "Jessica, Congratulations on starting your fashion blog. I know you can do anything you set your mind to. I will pray for your continued success. Love, Your biggest fan! Derek"
That is my incredible and loving husband!  Even if I never get any more than the 9 followers today it will be enough. I am doing something I love and am supported 100% by the man of my dreams. What more could I consider success?!

I hope you have an incredible night and enjoy your tomorrow :)

Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon and Warm Temps!

Good morning All!

Today is going to be a great day.  I started my day off with a volunteer appreciation lunch with my fellow PregnancyCare of Cincinnati company greats!  It was such a nice treat and I was so glad to be able to attend. I just began my work with PCC back in July and they have already been such an amazing blessing to me.
To celebrate and partake in the lunch I decide on some easy layers since it was supposed to warm to almost 70 degrees today (which it has - yay!).

Here is what I ended up with this beautiful day:

Printed Rayon Dress: Simply Vera by Vera Wang - older (find similar here and love this one!)
Scarf: from Etsy (find similar here)
Cardigan: Mossimo from Target - very old....I would retire it if I could find one I liked even half as much as it is pilling like crazy ;( Super light weight, 3/4 sleeves, perfect length,  has some stretch and is the perfect fit for me to button or leave unbottoned...goes with EVERYTHING! *sigh* (find similar here)
**I know I actually wore this same scarf and cardi combo yesterday afternoon. It's definitely a favorite combo becuase they go with so much and top off the outfit for me :)
Open Toe Wedges: American Eagle - older, I purchased at Payless (find similar here and here)
Handbag: MK "Hamilton" Large Tote  (find here and here)

Right hand/arm candy: Ring =Stella & Dot - no longer available, Bracelet=Prestige Jewlery (find similar here)

Sequin Tank: Willi Smith- purchased at TJ Maxx (find similar here and here)
Jeans: PRVCY (older) - find similar here and here

Who doesn't enjoy a little green???

I really love green and I couldn't pass up this super yummy and happy mint scarf that I ran across a few weeks ago.  Finally got a chance to wear it today and it didn't dissapoint. I paired it with one of my favorite fall staples - Zara riding boots - and an ultra comfy and fun skirt topped off with my "deal of the century" MK blazer (picked this up for only $25 when I was out of town this summer on a clearance rack - LAST ONE and in a size 4 - normally I would look for the 6 (I was nervous it wouldn't fit my ample chest, but it did - yay me!!!) the tag was $188!).
I wore this skirt a bit this summer with a simple white v-neck tee. It is that perfect medium weight material that can easily float between seasons. It has a hidden side zip, but feels and fits more like a pull on styled skirt (which I tend to like better for comfort reasons).

Blazer: Michael Kors (similar here)
Sweater: Old Navy (see it worn here in a previous entry and purchase here)
Scarf: Merona from Target
Skirt: Sandro Studio (Net-A-Porter- similar here and here)
Tights: Hue from Macy's
Riding Boots: Zara (find them here)

This is my hair on day 2 (no washing, no curling). I got up, worked my dry shampoo into my roots and then ran paddle brush through my hair...this was the result (at the end of the day -pics taken after I got home from the office around 5pm). The curl definitely relaxes a bunch from the day before, but it still works for me.
I am telling you that this dry shampoo trend has changed my beauty routine and saved me at least an hour every day! That is an hour I needed desperatly :)
I will wash and dry it tonight so that I can curl it in the morning and head out the door....not to mess with it again for at least 2 more days - yay!!
Anyway - I am really telling you all of this becuase I am hoping that it will help another girl out there today!  I wish someone had told me sooner - it would have changed my life for the better, sooner :)
(My dry shampoo of choice: Bastiste - buy here....for only $8 what do you have to lose?!)

Another famously "easy" and "effortless" outfit. If you have learned anything from reading my blogs it should be that I crave (require actually!) "easy"!  Of course I still want to feel and look stylish.

Hope you all enjoyed this 7th day of November! See you tomorrow.
